IC 03: Combined Tour Laos – Vietnam (12 days)

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 ARRIVAL - VIENTIANE

Arrive in Vientiane in the afternoon, flight QV 446 at 21:25. Transfer to hotel. Free time at leisure. Overnight in Vientiane.

Day 2 VIENTIANE – VANG VIENG

After a breakfast, we start visiting the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket, the temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. On the way to the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, we stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. Afternoon visit Morning Market, then transfer  to Vang Vieng (154 km, 3 hours), a peaceful city on the riverside of Nam Song River. Stop on the way to admire the tranquil beauty of Nam Ngum Lake. Upon arrival check in hotel and free time. Overnight in Vang Vieng.

Day 3 VANG VIENG – LUANG PRABANG

In the morning we’ll visit Tham Chang caves and explore local market before transfer to Luang Prabang, which is perhaps the best preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia (185 km, 7 hours). The road condition in some parts is poor, however the unequaled scenery with a mixture of steep terraced fields and hill tribe villages make our trip an interesting journey. After check in hotel we relax then we explore Street Night Market, where you can find the lovely collection and handmade textile by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.  Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 4 LUANG PRABANG & PAK OU CAVES

This morning you may want to wake up early and participate in the daily early morning ritual of saffron-clad monks with their black Alms-giving bowls being given offerings from the local people, including the ubiquitous sticky rice.  On the way back to hotel you have a chance to visit Phousi Market where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Laos is also known for its traditional crafts. 

After breakfast, we enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represent the classical architecture of Luang Prabang temple. Then you will visit Wat Visoun, and National museum.

In the afternoon we board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which also gives us a beautiful view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious of Pak Ou Caves, crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. Along the way, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where they make the distillation of local rice wine. On return, we take a short drive to Ban Xang Khong, well known for its hand-made of Jute Sar paper.

Late afternoon we then climb up to the top of Phousi Mount for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a beautiful sunset view of the city and the Mekong River. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 5 LUANG PRABANG – KUANGSI WATERFALL – HANOI

Morning driving to the beautiful Kuangsi Waterfall where you can splash around in the pools or walk along the forest paths, return to Luang Prabang with a stopover at Ban Phanom, a well known weaving village. Take an afternoon flight to Hanoi  VN 930 at 19:10 – 20:05. Pick up to hotel.  Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 6 HA NOI

We visit Ho Chi Minh’s Quarter includes Mausoleum, House-on-stilts, Museum called by his name and  One-pillar pagoda locating in the area – one of the oldest pagoda in Vietnam built in 11 th century. Visit Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) – The first university in Vietnam.  View the Gothic style of Central Catholic Church and Hanoi Opera under shadow trees. The image of new and old buildings interposing with high shadow trees is the easiest feature to recognize in Hanoi and in many cities of Vietnam. Mid-afternoon you get on a cyclo to petrol round the exciting Old Quarter of Hanoi and Hoan Kiem Lake – The Heard of the city. Enjoy Water Puppet Show – Vietnam traditional art in the evening. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 7 HANOI – HALONG CRUISE

Morning transfer to Halong (170 km) to board on a nice junk cruise to take a Ha Long Bay cruise over 2,000 islands that just our of the sea to provide a spectacular natural environment. Boarding the Junk, a welcome drink is served before sitting down to a sumptuous seafood lunch in the dining room. We cruise through the magnificent bay of Ha Long that’s declared a World Heritage Site in 1994. There is opportunity to explore some of the beautiful and awesome grottoes with our guide on board. In the evening, dinner will be served on boat, after which we can experiment with some night fishing, before settling into our comfortable cabins for the night. Overnight on board.

Day 8 HA LONG – HANOI – HOCHIMINH CITY

Enjoy our last morning on board of the junk cruise to admire the spectacular view of the bay.  Disembark the junk at 11:30 and drive back to Hanoi. On the way stop to see Dong Trieu Ceramic village. Transfer to airport to take evening flight to Hochiminh City at 18:00 – 20:00. Transfer to hotel and overnight in Hochiminh City.

Day 9 HOCHIMINH CITY & CU CHI TUNNELS

Today we visit the most typical places in the city: Notre Dame Cathedral, Central post office, War Museum, Jade Emperor Pagoda.  Afternoon we drive to suburb of HCMC, Cuchi District to visit Cuchi Underground Tunnels – a famous battle- field with over 200 km tunnel system under the ground, where Vietnamese guerillas had lived and fought during the American war. Overnight in Hochiminh City.

Day 10 HCMC – CAI BE – VINH LONG – CAN THO

Drive to the South of HCMC to get to Cai Be town belong to Tien Giang, one of 12 fertile provinces of the Mekong Delta. Boat trip on great Mekong river to visit Cai Be floating market cruising among local barges full of fruits and vegetables. Then optional stops at local workshops where you can see how rices paste, coconut candy and pop-rice, pop-corn are made. It is so interesting to visit the handicraft village where you can see how they make some special products : making rice-net for spring-rolls, fish sauce & soy sauce, cooking salt, sewing coconut-leaves for cottage proof. The rowing boat will take you deeper into the countryside on smaller canals and to enjoy the peaceful time. It is so interesting to see traditional houses made of wood and palm tree leaves and see some activities of the local farmers with an opportunity to make contacts with them and see how they catch fish or pick up fruits by ancestral ways in Mekong Delta. The tour ends around 15:00 at Vinh Long and you rejoin the bus to Can Tho. We visit Khmer Pagoda and overnight in Can Tho.

Day 11 CAN THO – HOCHIMINH CITY

Boat trip in early morning on Lower Branch of Mekong River to visit Cai Rang floating market and enjoy life activities of local people on the river. The boat travel along small canals and stop at Mr. Ba Cong’ gardens where we have chance to taste fresh seasonal fruits. Then transfer back to Hochiminh City. Overnight in Hochiminh City.

Day 12 HOCHIMINH CITY – DEPARTURE

Morning we are free to visit Ben Thanh central Market then packing luggage. Transfer to airport for departure flight. End of the tour.
